September revealed that the American economy generated significantly fewer jobs than Wall Street analysts had anticipated.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) climbed 0.5%, the S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose 0.7%, and the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) jumped 1.2% after hitting an intraday record high during the trading session.

The Nasdaq finished the week with gains, while both the Dow and the S&P 500 recorded losses for the week.

Treasury yields initially dropped in response to the employment report before climbing once more. The 10-year Treasury (^TNX) reached 5.28%, while the 30-year yield (^TYX) remained near 5.63%.

(^GSPC)

The US economy added 29,000 jobs in September, falling short of the 90,000 positions economists had projected. The unemployment rate increased to 4.2%, whereas experts had anticipated it would hold steady at 4.1%.

This data may influence the Federal Reserve’s upcoming decision regarding potential interest rate hikes. Following the release, bond traders quickly reduced their expectations for an October rate increase, pricing in a 16% probability compared to the 64% odds seen just one week prior.

In recent days, Federal Reserve officials have maintained that the central bank has sufficient time to evaluate inflation data before taking action, though they remain in agreement that current inflation levels are too high.
