Technical drafting is nearing completion before formal adoption and publication. According to the proposed schedule, Member States will have 24 months from the directive’s appearance in the Official Journal of the European Union to incorporate it into national law, and the provisions will take effect 30 months after publication. Consequently, assuming final adoption, the RIS requirements are anticipated to be fully operational by 2028.
The RIS revises the EU regulatory framework for retail investments by strengthening consumer protection, encouraging fairer and more efficient market outcomes, and establishing conditions that should boost retail participation in EU capital markets.
